I have to admit that Roosevelt Hospital literally saved my life. In 2005, I had a serious life-threatening illness. While I walked the long road to recovery, I fell into what I am told is called major depressive disorder. Both my family and I had no idea that the most difficult months were ahead of us, not behind us. I began to have regular thoughts about suicide and was hospitalized several times to protect me and make sure that I did not harm myself. The team on the inpatient psychiatry unit kept me safe and used their clinical expertise to provide an amazing standard of care. Between medication and therapy, I slowly began to get my life back. I am eternally grateful for the help they gave and have now become an advocate for mental wellness.
