Mark L. Smith, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, specializing in microsurgical breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, and all forms of cosmetic plastic surgery. He is Director of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Continuum Cancer Centers of New York, Chief of Plastic Surgery and Co-Director of the Friedman Center for Lymphedema Research and Treatment at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.

Dr. Smith is a co-founder, with Beth Israel’s Dr. Joseph Dayan, of the American Society for Lymphatic Surgery (ASLS), and is widely regarded as an expert in complex microsurgical reconstruction and lymphatic surgery. Their development of the groundbreaking reverse lymphatic mapping system to identify the optimum lymph node harvest site has dramatically improved outcomes for surgical lymphedema treatment. He has published extensively on these topics and is an invited lecturer nationally and internationally.

As an international volunteer for the past two decades, he has performed reconstructive surgery and taught local surgeons in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Central America and South America.
